Head Down Sprint 2002
Date: 10 Nov. 2002
Every morning the post arrived but sadly the entries didn't, with 4 events in the South, our already small rally took a bit of a nose dive, but determinedly we battled on, in order to accommodate those Mushers kind enough to support us. What is amazing in such a select gathering, is the distances travelled, and we had a truly International feel, with two Overseas Competitors gracing the field.
The weather is rarely kind to us on this Remembrance Weekend, and this year it was wet and the course was quite slippery with a lovely mud coating adorning Mushers & dogs alike.......someone was it calling Mud Down before we got there, and it was all too true I'm afraid, however it gives Andrea Taylor something to do cleaning up ready for the next rally and it certainly made for some amusing photo's.
Skip was there bright & early with the catering wagon and apart from an unexpected visit from Balfour Beatty to close the railway line, only the hardened few spectated. It was nice to meet new people, some with Sibes and Mals, interested in learning about the sport.
Everyone chipped in as usual to help and Hughie's two Grandsons did stirling work as trainee Hell's Angels, revving round all over the place, ferrying Marshal's, putting up signs and generally helping, bless.
With everyone safely round, it was quickly time to start the presentation and the usual arguments over who wanted which plant, then a round of thanks to all for making another enjoyable Head Down and everyone was swiftly off home to start the washing machines working.
