Northern Open Show 2002
Date: 16 June 2002
In what has to be probably the most beautiful setting we have ever had, the SHCGB Northern Show, took place on Sunday 16 June 2003 at Bavington Hall.
Michael Patrick had generously offered the use of the Grounds at his Fathers Northumberland Stately Home, and as we were coinciding it with an informal 25th Anniversary celebration, what could be better. Our hardworking Judges, Mary Davidson & Rhoda Sharp, whom between them had a bumper entry to skillfully place, certainly enjoyed themselves, and our thanks also go to them.
Revelers began arriving from 6pm on the Saturday, some coming only a short way from the bemusing antics at Kelso, many a lot further and soon the car park/camping area swung to Steve Taylor's 80's compilation CD and the delightful aroma of Bar Be Queing food. Just under 40 people enjoyed the get together, including a complimentary drink or two from the SHCGB and the last hardy drinkers crawled off to bed at 1.30.
Show day dawned bright again, we were in fact very lucky with the weather, and early stall holders set up in the wet weather marquee.
Show Manager Andy Noble laid out the rings, still in many peoples opinion, not using enough of the ample space available, and at 10 am the Show was under way.
Whilst not the most ideal venue if you had a number of dogs entered, the car park being a quick trot from the rings, it really was most relaxing to sit and just enjoy the judging in such a beautiful garden, then wander down to the Tea Room which sold delicious home made goodies. We are grateful that so many handlers took the car parking situation so well.
By mid afternoon the Show was over, every winner had been photographed, the judges and workers fed and most people were on their way home.
Our thanks again must go to Michael for doing an extreme amount of hard graft to make the day work and also to his Father for allowing us there
