Rendlesham Rally 2003
Date: 8 Feb. 2003

The run up to the weekend saw temperatures barely above zero, then as I'm sure we are all too familiar with, all changed for the weekend 7 - 10 degrees was the norm. Debbie & Cindy did an excellent job on the Friday marking up 4 trails (3.8, 3.6, 2.8, 2.6) all of which included a minimum of 14 turns, with the 6's having to contend with 19!!!!, but that's what makes this rally fun. The dogs seem to really enjoy it, no sooner have they turned a corner, the next red marker is in sight.

The rally was not without some excitement, in the 6 dog; my rig had front fork failure and I managed to snub up. I then pleaded with all the other 6 dog mushers laughing as they passed me to get another rig sent out so I could at least finish the course, this duly arrived, and judging by my 2nd day times I'm sure I will be checking my nuts are tight before I go off again.

Again in the 6's, Chris Walker had an eventful encounter with a GSD resulting in a bloodied nose, a couple of broken ribs & a dislocated shoulder (he didn't realise any of this till the weds after the race) thankfully all the dogs were OK.

And in the C Class Rachel Taylor ended the weekend on crutches after tearing a muscle scooting!

The Sunday saw Ron Walton run into a group of 7 horse riders with a greyhound for company and apart from that all as far as we know went smoothly. It's a pity the same couldn't be said for the pub's new landlord.

Thanks to everyone for making it a very enjoyable weekend, Scrutineers, Snubbers, Starters, Finishers & finally but by no means least Marshals (has anyone ever seen Kim Franklin marshal the B class two days running? - bribery gets you everywhere (cheers Kim)).
