Sherwood Pines Night Rally 2003
Date: 4 Jan. 2003
A good entry although slightly down on last year, of 52 teams and considering the wet weather we have all suffered lately, God smiled on us and produced a very cold, bright night.
No sightings of the Sherwood Boglin this year, thank goodness - the only serious fright provided by Mick when he thought he had left all the numbers at home, sent Sue and me back to search the house only to find that they were in Bill's trailer all the time!
We had no line of Christmas trees this year to keep the teams in a straight line across the field but they managed it with the aid of some red and white tape with no problems. In spite of the almost ideal conditions the course record of 11mins 19 secs remained unbroken, Steve Taylor's winning time in E class the closest at 11.46
The Dog & Duck (under new management) provided free overnight parking and late meals as usual to the satisfaction of everyone concerned (we've had no complaints yet anyway).
On a serious note, we did have a complaint from the Forestry Commission Ranger concerning the number of doggy doo bags left around the Cafeteria area: come on folks - there is no point picking up the doggy doo if you are then going to leave the bags behind, is there!
Finally, without the help of the usual crowd, in particular Billy Kingsbury, Keith Givens, Kirstie Price, Sarah, Alan & Wendy, my mother, my hairdresser etc., etc. and everyone else especially the marshalls, we couldn't have done it!
See you all next year.
