Research Project to Identify Genetic Mutation Responsible for Hereditary Cataract in Northern Breeds
Our membership have been asked to be involved in a HC (Hereditary Cataract) in Northern Breeds research project with the AHT (Animal Health Trust) in Newmarket. The project is being funded by the Kennel Club and the SHCA (Siberian Husky Club of America) and is owned by the AHT not the breed club. The project officially commenced on the 1st July, 2008. We have already increased the donations in the scheme from 30 to 75 dogs. The scheme only holds currently 10 donations from HC affected dogs. (The AHT need more of this type of DNA sample.) So a huge thank-you to those of you that have already contributed to the scheme during the last few weeks! If you are interested in getting involved with the scheme, your DNA contribution is a private one between you and the AHT. Any test the AHT develop in the future will benefit you and the future of our breed worldwide. Once a test is developed for HC at no cost to yourself (once you have made your DNA contribution) you will receive your dogs results free of charge, upon personal request. To request a DNA kit please either contact myself, Pauline Amphlett, in the first instance on e.mail address: paulineamphlett@hotmail.com or T: (01829) 271505 or M: (07899) 998255 or Bryan McLaughlin (AHT) on either e.mail address: bryan.mclaughlin@aht.org.uk or T: (08700) 502460 and this will then be posted out to you immediately first class post. (You can request as many DNA kits as you need.) If you require more information about the project please don't hesitate to contact Cathryn Mellersh directly on either e.mail: cathryn.mellersh@aht.org.uk or T: (08700) 502460
Please click here to download the project information from Cathryn Mellersh and support the scheme today. It's free to get involved. Further information is also available on the AHT website. Date:01 Sep 2008, Author: Pauline Amphlett |
