Website Launched
Website for the SHCGB was launched today. It is meaned as a foundation for building a definitive resource for all aspects around the Siberian Husky. An increasing number of people are looking for information about Siberian Huskies on the Internet, we hope this serves them well.
It has been a long time coming - with computers crashing, loosing many months of work, but we insisted that the club needed a site that could cope with it's many activities and be easily updated in the long term. The emphasis has been on producing it in a way that non-technical people can maintain areas themselves in an editorial role. Guy Redwood and Helen Winter would like to thank those who have helped so far.
Some areas are still under construction and we are looking for help with content. The main area in need of help is the 'Showing' section.
In-line with the club's Winter activities, the 'Working' section is the strongest. It lists all pending rallies and offers reports from past races, including photographs where possible. The results from the rallies are stored in a database that you can search against your name. The Rally entry forms remember your details to make it easier to enter the next rally.
We also look forward to seeing people chatting on the bulletin boards. There is even one set up just for comments and suggestions about the website.
For the techies out there, it uses a application server called Zope, served through Apache, with a database on Linux, hosted in the USA on my personal webserver. It's a new technology and growing in popularity due to it's speed, flexibility and feature set. We've also set up a mailserver for committee members to use with official siberianhuskyclub.com email addresses.
We have enjoyed creating this and look forward to see the web team grow. We look forward to hearing from you all and wish you a Merry Christmas.
