Fiona Dunlop from Gloucestershire
About 10 years ago we were in a position, house and work wise, with my working quite close to home and living in the country, to have a dog. Having looked through countless Dog Breed books, John decided he wanted a Husky. So armed with the Kennel Clubs breeders Tel no. we contacted same and couldn’t find a breeder who had a litter as it was during the winter and those that "raced" theirs obviously didn’t breed at that time. But one thoughtful Breeder in Leicestershire told us all about the Welfare Scheme. So we duly contacted Joi Barnes and had a really good talk about Huskies. Subsequently Simon & Nina came to visit us to check on the garden etc and brought their two beautiful Sibes with them, Anya and Bea, we were overwhelmed by how alert and bright they were. After building a pen in the garden and getting the all clear from Joi we went to visit and was introduced to a sweet little girl "Kizzie", we fell in love with her straight away and she also took to us. She was not used to being a kennel dog and quickly settled in at home, so has such character and is a right little "Duchess".

She is still with us, albeit slowing down now, she is nearly 12 years old. The only sad part is that she has lost her friend and companion Han. We got Han or Hanny as we called him as a pup via a breeder in Scotland 6 years ago, as we thought that Kizzie might be lonely and she took to him immediately, being very motherly and looking out for him all the time. They were totally inseparable, went everwhere together and did everything together, until sadly Hanny died 7 months ago of a brain tumour. We were all heart broken, such a waste of life for such a bright and beautiful Husky boy.

We are gradually coming to terms with the loss of our boy and Kizzie is starting to settle now, although she still looks for him in all his favourite places.

Our Huskies were and still are the light of our lives and we would strongly recommend them to any one with the ability for love, compassion, patience and boundless energy!!
Welfare or as a Pup they certainly are a BREED IN A MILLION!!
