S.H.C.G.B. Musher Registration Scheme
History Mushers entered in rallies need to be easily identified by the rally marshall's for a variety of reasons, and so a number scheme was a logical solution. A stock of bibs are held by the club and issued to each entrant at each rally. As the popularity of rallies grew, so did the demand for bibs, which led to a few problems such as, ensuring everyone returned their bib at the end of each day, (a near impossible task!!!) and worse still, getting them washed and to the next rally organiser in time for the next rally, and so the registration scheme was born. This enabled regular mushers to have their own number, thus prompting consistency, and catering for those who wished to be instantly known by their number, shades of David Beckham and all that. The benefit to the club was that, it instantly reduced the number of bibs to be carted about, and the laundry bill! It also helped with figures at that time in regard to how many rally brochures we needed each year, and raised some revenue towards the cost of publication and the bibs. The Scheme The scheme is NOT compulsory, but you do need to be a SHCB club member in order to apply for a bib. If after your first season you decide rallies are for you, and you attend rallies regularly, then I urge you to register. This makes life easier for the Rally Organiser's. Bibs You can purchase a Bib Number for £5.00 from the Bib co-ordinator Yricka Gardner, who will forward you your bib, receipt and bib scheme rules. You will need to ensure you enter this number on your entry sheet for rallies and clearly display the number when running. You can of course make your own arrangements for number display, e.g. T-shirts "or rig plates, front and back, so that it is clearly visible to the Rally Organiser's and Marshall's. Bib numbers can also be owned in partnership at no extra cost. Junior Mushers An increasing number of juniors are wanting their own bib numbers, and why not? Although a few have been issued in the past, I have been reluctant to tie up the adult numbers, given the limited number of junior events, and regular attendance to these. But a solution has been found, a junior bib scheme! The children can choose their own number providing it has NOT already been allocated, I suggest they submit three numbers in order of preference to minimise disappointment, numbers must be below 20 at present. To apply, please send a cheque of £2 payable to SHCGB to myself, including the child's name, age and number choice. Those children who already have numbers can either add the letter 'J' to their existing number (don't worry if you've forked out for a printed T-shirt etc. just let the Rally Organiser know it's a junior number) or swap them for one of their choosing, no cost. Brochure The Rally Brochure or Unified Brochure as it is sometimes referred to, contains the entire seasons rally information, namely, who, when, where, directions, facilities, classes, and entry forms, plus additional information on The Dual Championship Scheme, class categories, and fees. The Rally Brochure is sent annually to all members. If you do have any questions or are unclear on anything, or wish to register, please contact me. Happy racing! Yricka Gardner Date:03 Oct 2004
