So you want to run a rally......
During the closing years of the last Century the face of racing in this
Country has changed dramatically with so many acronyms being bandied about,
that if they came after a Solicitor's name you'd know the bill was going
to
be high!
However in the midst of all this the Club
(SHCGB) has been left with an
excellent nucleus of events covering the Country, but as you all know,
you
can't have too much of a good thing.
Perhaps you have already considered running
a rally, or maybe reading this
will plant the idea firmly in your head. Either way, what you really want
is
more information about running a Club event.
First you need somewhere to hold the rally;
if you are an experienced musher
you will know whether or not your proposed venue is suitable, but if you
are
at all unsure, contact your nearest Committee member and they will arrange
for someone to come and have a look for you. Consider the are you have
in
mind and ask yourself :
- are the trails suitable
- is there sufficient parking
- what distances are available
- can teams overtake
- are there suitable loops with separate
start/finish areas
- would the land owners agree
- are there lots of other users, i.e. mountain
biker, horse riders, etc.
- are there hazards on the course
- are there local bylaws and what are they
Once it has been decided that the venue is
OK and a date has been pencilled
in the calendar, then the Hon. Secretary will arrange for
you
to receive a copy of the SIBERIAN HUSKY CLUB GUIDELINES FOR RALLY ORGANISERS.
This contains information on everything you need to do, arrange, think
of,
pre-plan, anticipate, etc. and will be totally invaluable to you.
The Committee has a number of Rally Organisers
in its ranks and there are
many other Club Members who can be called upon to help you. An experienced
'Overseer' will also be appointed to give you as much help and advice
as
necessary before, during and after the event. By running a rally for the
Club you are able to draw on many years of experience and are being backed
by
a large organisation who will help make it a success.
So why not run a rally......
